The Problem
America currently ranks 33rd among 44 advanced economies in terms of the proportion of young people obtaining post-high school degrees. As a former president aptly stated, “The countries that out-educate us today will out-compete us tomorrow.” Undoubtedly, our schools must become hubs where students acquire the skills essential to thrive in the 21st-century economy.
A college degree significantly enhances graduates' employment and earnings potential in several keyways:
Lower Unemployment Rates
College graduates are much less likely to be unemployed compared to individuals with only a high school diploma.
Higher Earnings
Specifically, bachelor’s degree holders earn on average $40,500 annually, which is 86% higher than the earnings of individuals with a high school diploma.
Improved Financial Wellbeing
A significant majority (87%) of bachelor’s degree holders report financial wellbeing.
Lifetime Earnings
Over a lifetime, college graduates can expect to earn approximately $1.2 million more than those with only a high school diploma.
Health Benefits
Bachelor’s degree holders are 47% more likely to have health insurance provided through their job compared to those with a high school diploma.
Longer Life Expectancy
Studies indicate that individuals who have attended at least some college can expect to live approximately seven years longer than their peers without postsecondary education.

Why Focus on Disadvantaged Title I Students?
Title I students are from low-income families. These students are often described as living in poverty, coming from low socioeconomic backgrounds (low SES), or being eligible for free or reduced-cost school lunches. They require additional support due to their distinct needs and circumstances, which include challenges both at home and in their educational environment.
